Vacation to Singapore, October 11-15, 2010, Day 2

Woke up on 7AM in the morning, having light breakfast in hostel, we then continued our journey to several landmarks of Singapore. We took MRT, alighted at Clarke Quay station and walked along Boat Quay to Sir Raffles statue. What a nice and quiet morning where we could hear birds singing on the trees. After that, we walked towards Merlion statue by underpass. It is the opposite of Fullerton hotel. The place had been surrounded by many tourists when we arrived, made us a bit difficult to take good pictures. It has 2 merlion statues, big and small.

From there, we walked to Esplanade theatre, the building looks like durian skin, some people say it looks like fly’s eyes. Since it was still early, so the place was not crowded, restaurants hadn’t opened yet too. We took underpass walking again to Suntec City mall. We wanted to see Fountain of Wealth, luckily we also could walk around the fountain and touched the water. It is written if we walk around the fountain for 3 times, it can bring prosperity and wealth for us.

Time showed 11AM when we took a bus going to Marina Bay Sands. Many attractions that you can get in MBS such as SkyPark, shopping mall, sampan boat inside the mall, casino, hotel and many more. When we went there, it was not fully operated because some buildings were still in progress. We decided to go to SkyPark which is on the top of the building. The entrance ticket is $20 per person. Public entrance to this area is outside Hotel Tower 3 in the Porte Cochere area – off Bayfront Avenue – level 1. We then went downstairs having a stroll inside the mall, we also saw the casino from outside. Too bad that we could not go in because we were wearing sandals, meanwhile for people who would like to enter the casino must be appropriately attired.

We had roasted chicken rice and roasted pork rice at food court for $10. Finished with our lunch, we went out to board a bus towards Bugis street area. In Bugis street market, we bought a lot of snacks as gifts to our colleagues. You can find many items there with very cheap price, not only foods or snacks but also accessories, clothes, etc. There were durian seller in the market, we bought 2 boxes of durian and ate there. It was delicious, the durians come from Malaysia. Actually we still planned to go to Little India, but since we held two big plastic of snacks on our hand, we decided to go back to hostel. We took a break a while and went for bathing.

Around 6PM, we went out looking for dinner, we had roti prata, carrot cake and coconut thai at restaurant nearby which costed $8,60. From there, we went to Clarke Quay by MRT, felt the atmosphere at night. I like there, I sat on riverside and felt the air breeze while seeing persons played G-MAX reverse bungy. Then we walked along the restaurants in Clarke Quay. It is really interesting and cozy places, just too bad the food prices there are quite expensive. Felt tired of walking a whole day, we finally went back to hostel and had a good sleep.
